Shopian: The promises made by government to provide better road infrastructure in the south Kashmir’s Shopian district have proved hoax as the most of the roads in the district are in shambles.
Locals from different areas of the district have alleged that roads in their areas are in a very dilapidated state as the concerned department has not macadamised these roads since decades.
The roads which according to locals are in shambles include Zainapora-Reban road, Zainapora-Sofi road, Kamdulan-Hajipora road and Hajipora-Wasawhalan road.
Locals from these areas have alleged the repeated promises of the higher ups have proved hoax on ground and these roads have not seen macadamisation since decades.
Locals from Wasawhalan, Hajipora, Kumdulan areas said that they have been requesting the top officials of the district to repair the roads in the area but their repeated requests are falling on deaf ears.
Locals from Reban, Hydergund, Sofipora and Zainapora have also alleged that despite living very close to Zainapora Sub district their areas have been neglected on developmental front.
Gulzar Ahmad, a resident of Reban said that the dilapidated condition of road is giving tough time to commuters and travelers.
He said that the authorities must repair these roads at an earliest.
Meanwhile, the locals have once again requested the Lt Governor lead administration to take up the issue and repair the roads at an earliest so that the locals can heave a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, Assistant Executive Engineer R&B sub division Zainapora Nisar Ahmad said that macadamisation process on Zainapora-Reban road will start this week while as patching on Wasawhalan- Hajipora and Hajipora-Kumdulan road is being done and part of the road will be macadamised this year only.
He said that the remaining road will be macadamised next year.
