Shopian resident avoids home quarantine, interacts with locals

Shopian: A positive case from Chitragam area of Shopian district may turn out to be a ‘super spreader’ of Covid-19 as the man has visited several places in the district during the last one week.
The 50 year old male from Chitragam Kalan tested positive on Monday at CD hospital almost 7 days after his samples were taken randomly.
Officials said that his samples were taken randomly at GMC Anantnag where he was visiting for dialysis as he is suffering from a renal ailment.
Soon after taking his samples, the patient was advised home quarantine till reports would arrive however, he did not adhered to the protocol and visited many places after his samples were taken, sources said.
A local said that he was praying in a local mosque along with others that too five times a day besides that he also offered Eid prayers with hundreds of people.
He further added that he collected donations for mosque during Eid prayers and later counted them as well.
Locals added that the man in question also visited neighbours for condolences besides that he also visited the houses of persons who were in ‘Atekaf’ during the last 10 days of Ramadhan.
“Imagine the number of people he must have come in contact with all these days,” said an official adding, that the administration is now tracing his contacts on a war footing basis.
He further added that the administration is collecting samples at doorsteps given the number of contacts.
“We have collected samples from many of his contacts and it will be a matter to watch out what will be their results and only after that we can say whether the man has been a super spreader or not,” the official said.
Pertinently, Shopian district has so far witnessed 129 positive cases among them 107 have recovered and 22 are still active.
