Anantnag village residents rue lack of basic facilities

Anantnag: The inhabitants of Chiree village in Kokernag Tehsil of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have decried the administration’s role in not addressing the developmental needs of the area.
The inhabitants alleged that they have been neglected by successive governments and the area has remained far away from development in every field.
“The roads are dilapidated, no water supply, pesky power supply and no access to mobile services in the village are few of the problems that we face,” said an elderly man.
He said that they have been left out by the government as they do not belong to this region.
“The road from Larnoo to Chiree village is in very dilapidated condition and it has never been repaired or macadamised,” said another local identified as Shakeel Ahmad.
He said that they are living on the mercy of God as no department has ever paid heed to their area and they continue to live in dark ages.
“To fetch potable water the women folk have to go by foot for about 5 to 6 kilometers as there is no drinking water facility available in the village which comprises of over 400 households,” he added.
“We are hardly receiving power supply for two to three hours on daily basis but no one cares about our sufferings,” said another local.
“No mobile tower is available in the area, due to which we have no access to mobile services,” he said, adding that the people have to walk five kilometers to get signal on their phones.
The locals alleged that they approached the concerned authorities several times but according to them, the requests fell on deaf ears.
The locals now requested the Lt Governor G C Murmu and other concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest and provide basic facilities to the area so that they too can avail the befits of development.
