12 youth arrested who pelted stones during anti-encroachment drive at Budgam

Budgam, Apr 19: At least a dozen youth were detained by police today, for taking part in clashes during an anti-encroachment drive in Soibugh area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district area on last Thursday.
Duty officer at police station Soibugh, Mudasir Ahmad said that people had encroached the government land in Soibugh and on Thursday officials headed by Tehsildar Budgam had visited the area to retrieve that land to raise a building for a Police station there.
“While retrieving the land, people objected to the authorities after which clashes broke out,” he said.
He said that police took cognizance of the matter and detained 12 people who were involved in stone pelting and being part of clashes on Thursday. “They were arrested during the raids carried out by the police,” he said.
However, locals alleged vandalism of public property in the area during night raids by the police.
“Police raided our houses in the night and damaged properties, broke main doors and detained youth,” locals said. (KNO)
