Ganderbal: Six days after remaining closed, the strategic 434 km long Srinagar-Leh highway was reopened for essential vehicles on Sunday afternoon.

Tehsildar Gund Fareed Ahmad Khatana said that on Sunday, 92 vehicles loaded with essential items were dispatched to Kargil and Leh from Sonamarg.

The Srinagar-Leh highway was closed six days ago due to fresh snowfall along Zojilla Pass. As a result, around 100 vehicles including petrol and diesel tankers were stranded at Sonamarg.
