Despite working as frontline workers, NYCs getting ‘peanuts’
Pulwama: Despite working as frontline workers in every field, National Youth Corps (NYCs) in Jammu and Kashmir are getting mere 2500 Rupees and their monthly remuneration.
The NYC candidates working in various departments said that they have been working on the frontline every time the region is faced with some situation.
“Whether it is covid-19, election or any other eventuality, we have been performing our duties like permanent employees but we are getting a salary of just Rs 2500,” said a NYC volunteer, requesting anonymity.
He said that at present hundreds of NYC candidates are working in different hospitals day and night.
“Imagine the plight of our families if someone among us dies in the line of duty. We have got no insurance or any other health benefit,” he added.
“Despite being highly qualified, we face humiliation every day as we have to seek even our travelling fares from our parents or others at home,” said another NYC volunteer.
“How can we feed our families by the little remuneration package that we are getting,” he added. He said that at times we are even deprived of this meager amount as well for months together.
“Government must look into the issues we face and come up with a job policy for us,” said another volunteer, adding that that they are in a state of depression.
Pertinently, there are around six thousand NYCs in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory. These volunteers were engaged in March 2018.
