PM-CARES Fund: Kashmiri Pandits, two sikh familes in Kargil offer donations
Srinagar/Kargil: A group of Kashmiri Pandit employees living in south Kashmir’s Vessu transit colony donated Rs 50,000 to PM-CARES Fund to combat the coronavirus outbreak.
Meanwhile, two sikh familes in Kargil also contributed to the fund.
In a press release, Vessu Welfare Committee president Sunny Raina said, “It is our duty to contribute our little bit on a call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
The contributions were made by colony members voluntarily, the committee said.
Modi had announced creation of the PM’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM-CARES) Fund where people can contribute to help the government fight against coronavirus and similar “distressing situations”.
Vessu Welfare Committee general secretary Sunil Pandita appealed to the people to maintain social distancing and not to come out of their quarters to contain the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, the two Sikh families in Kargil donated over Rs one lakh to combat Coronavirus infection in the region.
Out of 1.15 Lakh Muslim population, there are only two Sikh families in Kargil.
On Monday, the Sikh Community headed by Sardar Karan Singh, who is also the President Gurudwara Civil Sanghat handed over the cheque of Rs 1,28,000 to District Development Commissioner Kargil Baseer-ul-Haq Chowdary.
Sardar Karan Singh, a teacher by profession said that it was small but pious contribution on part of Sikh community to combat Covid-19 disease in the region.
DDC Kargil Baseer-ul-Haq Chowdary said that he is very thankful to the Sikh Community for their generous contribution.
In Ladakh, there were 14 Covid-19 cases, out of which 9 have been discharged after recovering while 5 are still undergoing treatment. (with inputs from PTI, KNT)
