Lack of facilities: 26 quarantined people flee from hospital after creating ruckus
Govt terminates doctor, suspends another one
Srinagar: At least 26 people from Chattabal and Batamaloo area of Srinagar who were put under quarantine created uproar at Jawar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital (JLNMH), Rainawari, Srinagar early on Saturday morning and fled after breaking doors and window panes of hospital.
Officials at the hospital said that many people including 14 women and 12 male from Chattabal and Batamaloo were placed under quarantine in the hospital after a positive case was reported from Chattabal area of Srinagar on Friday.
“They, however, complained that they were not satisfied with the hospital facility and early in the morning, created ruckus and broke down window panes, doors of the hospital and fled,” they said. “All these were close relatives and family members of positive case of Chattabal.”
In the night, some patients from Batamaloo and Chattabal, they said they didn’t like the facilities and instead created uproar and broke the window panes and fled early in the morning. “Now they have been brought back by the police,” said Dr Zakir Ahmed, Medical Superintendent of Jawhar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital, Rainawari.
Meanwhile, authorities have terminated a doctor and suspended another for showing negligence in their duties towards Covid-19 suspects admitted at JLNM Hospital.
Official sources said that that DHSK has terminated a Microbiologist Dr Mariaya Jeelani with immediate effect.
“You were asked to attend your duties immediately, keeping in view the prevailing situation arising out of Covid-19 outbreak in Valley. You failed to comply with and it created lot of inconvenience to the patients and hospital administration. Hence, your contractual services hired as Microbiologist are hereby terminated with immediate effect,” the order reads.
Sources added that Directorate of Health Services also placed another medico under suspension. She has been identified as Dr Safina Gul, the daughter of Mubarak Gul.
Pertinently, a melee was witnessed at Rainawari Hospital this morning when attendants of Covid-19 suspects protested against the non availability of doctors and lack of facilities in the hospital. They damaged equipments and broke windows and doors. A couple of Covid-19 suspects had left the hospital but were brought back. (with inputs from KNO/KNT)
