LG Murmu visits Baramulla, Anantnag review security arrangements

Baramulla/Anantnag: Lt Governor Girish Chandra Murmu on Saturday visited north Kashmir district of Baramulla to review the overall security and development situation with senior civil and security officials.
This was the first visit of Murmu outside Srinagar after taking over as Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) on October 31 at Raj Bhavan here.
An official spokesman said that Lt Gov at a high level meeting reviewed the security situation and development projects in north Kashmir.
Senior officers of the district gave a detailed brief to Murmu about the overall situation, particularly with regard to measures taken to meet the challenges during winter months.
Sources said he was informed about the stocking of essentials, including rice, atta and gas cylinders at different places in the district.
Sources said the Lt Governor directed officers to make sure that people don’t face any difficulty during the winter months when there is heavy snowfall and temperature goes several degrees below zero.
They said officers informed about the ongoing development projects. The Lt Governor was also informed about the adverse effect on work after work force from different states left for their homes after August 5.
Murmu directed officials to speed up the work and complete the developmental projects as per schedule.
Sources said the Lt Governor was also informed about the ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops in Uri sector, where a large number of residents were affected. However, he was informed about the measure taken for affected families by the administration.
Senior security officials informed Murmu about the overall security situation in the district.
Earlier Murmu stressed the need to maintain sustained coordination between security forces and civil administration to meet the security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, besides ensuing security of vital instillations and protected persons.
The Lt Governor interacted with top officials of Army, Police and CRPF, and reviewed the overall security situation in the newly created UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
This was his maiden interaction with the officials after taking over as Lt Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT).
An official spokesperson on Saturday said that Lt Gen KJS Dhillon, GOC 15 Corps, met Murmu at the Raj Bhavan here on Friday and briefed him about issues relating to the security situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and in the Valley.
The Lt Governor stressed the importance of maintaining a sustained coordination between the Security Forces and the Civil Administration to meet the security challenges in J&K.
In a separate meeting, Zulfiquar Hasan, ADG CRPF, J&K, briefed Lt. Governor Girish Chandra Murmu about the prevailing security scenario in J&K.
Hasan also informed the Lt Governor about the role being played by the CRPF for internal security management, preparedness and logistic arrangements during winter and in any contingent situation to render critical help as helpline is being operated by CRPF.
The Lt Governor advised heightened surveillance on all fronts and ensuring safety and security of people in all possible manner.
The spokesperson said Muneer Ahmad Khan, ADGP, Home Guards, Security, Law and Order, also met Murmu at the Raj Bhavan on Friday and briefed him about several important matters relating to Security and Law and Order management to ensure safety and security of people.
The Lt Governor earlier during a visit to south Kashmir emphasized the vital importance of regularly reviewing and ensuring the security of all protected premises and vital installations and effectively maintaining law and order in J&K.
Lieutenant Governor called for taking priority developmental projects in convergence mode for efficient utilization of the resources available under different schemes and programmes of the government.
He directed the officers to set up relief and rescue centres along the disaster prone stretches of national highway ahead of winters. He said all the basic facilities should be ensured in the disaster centres to facilitate the commuters and transporters during winters.
During the meeting, Lieutenant Governor announced Rs 13 crore for boosting developmental scenario in the district. It was said that out of the announced amount, Rs 8 crore will be spent on the expeditious completion of upcoming Rehmati Aalam Hospital and Rs 5 crore as additionality for execution of the works taken under ‘Back to Village’ programme.
He also announced sanctioning of vehicles for mobility of all Tehsildars of the district besides accorded sanction to the proposal of DC Anantang regarding establishing district level youth hostel and up-gradation of existing NTPHC at Pahalgam.
Earlier, highlighting the achievements registered in the district, DDC Anantnag briefed the Lieutenant Governor in detail about the development profile of the district.
The meeting was informed about status of the projects funded by JKIFDC under languishing projects scheme. It was said that 113 projects worth Rs 270.11 crore are under execution in the district under different sectors.
Lieutenant Governor was informed that 141 habitations have been covered under PMGSY with the completion of 172 road communication schemes. He was also informed that Anantnag district tops the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat programme in the whole country and in implementation of E-PDS.
It was also told that the recently launched Market Intervention Scheme has been successfully implemented in the district with 3222 MTs of apple fruit procured from the growers across the district, so far.
On the occasion, Lieutenant Governor Murmu also took a threadbare review of the winter preparedness in the district. He was informed that a well-knit contingency plan for winter preparedness has been put in place to tackle winter challenges. All the men and machinery has been readied to effectively tide over the vagaries of weather during the winters, the meeting was told.
Lieutenant Governor was also informed about the overall law and order situation of the district.
