Pulwama: Established almost four decades ago, a New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC) in Nowpora Payeen in Litter Tehsil of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district is painting a grim picture of the health institute as the Centre lacks all basic facilities, thus leaving the patients to suffer.
Residents told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that a sub centre was established here before four decades and was upgraded before two years but nothing has changed on ground as it continues to lack all the basic facilities.
They said that residents of over one dozen villages are suffering due to the callous attitude of authorities towards the centre. Officials posted at the centre said that health centre lacks entire basic infrastructure required for its smooth functioning.
“No medicine else than a first aid is available here due to which we are forced to shift every patient to district hospital,” they said.
Authorities have upgraded the health centre to PHC but only on papers as it works in a three rented rooms with no laboratory and other basic facilities, said an official.
“We have single bathroom here, no electricity, no heating system is available due to which it becomes difficult to serve to the people,” he said.
Despite several appeals to the higher ups, nothing has been done so far, he said, appealing concerned authorities to look into the matter so that the locals could heave a sigh of relief.
Chief Medical Officer (CMO) PulwamaDrJaffarAkhoon said that nobody brought this issue into his notice.
“I will look into the matter and every possible step for the betterment of the centre will be taken,” he said.
