Govt to compile class-wise enrollment data of all government schools
Srinagar: The school education department has started a fresh exhaustive exercise to collect the class-wise enrollment of the government schools across Kashmir.
The school heads have been asked to furnish the enrollment of their schools post clubbing of the educational institutions which were having meager enrollment of the students, an official said.
In this regard a circular has been issued by the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) to all the Chief Education Officers (CEOs).
“All the CEOs are here by instructed to direct the school heads to submit the enrollment of their school as on date within a stipulated time period to this directorate,” reads a circular. In wake of this, all the CEOs have issued the circulars to the schools heads with same directions.
The department has devised a 30 column format for this purpose which has been sent to the schools.
An official said the enrollment data is being collected in wake of the department initiative by organizing enrollments drives in peripheries in November to invite students for admission in the government schools.
“The department had given directions to the schools to organize the enrollment drives in villages and peripheries. So as to ascertain the ground situation, schools have been asked to submit the latest figures,” the official said.
He said the department was on the other side facing a challenge as some of the schools were at the verge of closure due to les number of students.
“Half a dozen states oldest schools got closed as well in past two years. In wake of this, the department wants to cross check the actual situation on ground,” the official said.
Pertinently, the school education department has claimed that over 80,000 new enrollments have been recorded after the launch of door to door awareness campaign across the valley after the commencement of new academic session in schools in November.
“So the latest figures submitted by schools will give a realistic picture of enrollment in government schools,” the official said.
Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) G N Itoo said the department has a major plan to revive the enrollment in government schools particularly at primary and middle level.
“Our aim is to make clubbed schools independent and shift them back to their own positions and run as individual institution. So we want to assess the present enrollment in schools as well as number of teachers and future course of action will be taken accordingly,” he said.
