Panun Kashmir to protest in Delhi on Jul 20; reiterates demand for justice, separate homeland
Jammu, Jul 12 (PTI) Panun Kashmir, an organisation representing displaced Kashmiri Pandits, on Sunday said its proposed protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on July 20 will seek justice and accountability for the 1990 exodus of the community, while reiterating its demand for a separate homeland within the Kashmir valley.
Panun Kashmir Chairman Tito Ganju appealed to the younger generation to participate in large numbers in the demonstration, describing it as an opportunity to peacefully exercise their democratic rights and strengthen the community’s collective demand for justice.
Addressing a high-level organisational meeting here to finalise arrangements for the protest, Ganju criticised what he termed decades of “institutional and political indifference” towards the plight of displaced Kashmiri Pandits.
“The issue of the genocide and exile of Kashmiri Hindus has been systematically ignored by India’s political leadership for the past 36 years. The organisation’s march to Jantar Mantar is intended to convey a clear message to Parliament that justice must take precedence,” he said.
He said no lasting political solution to the Kashmir issue could be achieved without addressing accountability for the 1990 exodus.
Reiterating the organisation’s long-standing demands, the Panun Kashmir leader called for official legislative recognition of what the organisation describes as the “genocide of Kashmiri Hindus” and stressed the need for a separate homeland within the Union of India to ensure their secure, dignified, and sustainable resettlement.
The meeting, attended by central office-bearers, state coordinators, and volunteer committees, mapped out strategies for transportation, accommodation, security liaison, and participant facilitation, a spokesman said.
Panun Kashmir Convenor Agnishekhar said the proposed gathering is a democratic assertion aimed at forcing the unresolved issues of Kashmiri Hindus back into the national consciousness.
He appealed to all citizens committed to historical truth and human rights to join the demonstration and stand in solidarity.
General Secretary Kuldeep Raina said dedicated volunteer committees have been deployed across various states to manage reception, transport, and participant assistance.
Organising Secretary Behari Lal Kaul said formal invitations have been extended to a broad spectrum of civil society, including jurists, academicians, historians, public intellectuals, youth organisations, and nationalist groups, to ensure a robust, multi-layered national engagement on the issue of justice and rehabilitation.
