Police arrests two gamblers in Sopore; Cash and Playing Cards Seized
Srinagar, July 5: Police in north Kashmir’s Sopore arrested two gamblers and seized cash along with playing cards from their possession, a police spokesman said Sunday.
He said that acting on credible information, J&K Police conducted a raid at Botingoo, Warpora and apprehended two persons involved in illegal card gambling, while some others managed to flee from the spot.
The arrested persons have been identified as Tahir Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Maqbool Mir, and Ferooz Ahmad Malla, son of Ghulam Mohammad Malla, both residents of Malpora, Warpora, Sopore. During the raid, stake money amounting to ₹5,050 along with playing cards was recovered and seized on the spot.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 168/2026 under Section 13 of the Gambling Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore, and further investigation is underway. Efforts are on to identify and apprehend the other persons who fled from the spot, the spokesman added.
