Police crackdown on drug trafficking in Jammu, 18 picked up for questioning
Jammu: Police conducted an intensive cordon and search operation in parts of Jammu city and rounded up 18 suspects for questioning as part of its ongoing drive against drug trafficking under the drug-free campaign, officials said.
The operation was carried out in Valmiki Colony in the Gandhi Nagar area following specific inputs about alleged ganja peddling activities in the locality, they said.
According to police, more than 250 houses were searched during the operation, aimed at identifying and disrupting the activities of drug peddlers and anti-social elements operating in the area.
The operation was conducted as part of the Jammu Police’s sustained campaign to eradicate the menace of narcotics and strengthen efforts to “disrupt, dismantle and defeat” drug networks, officials said.
The 18 people picked up during the operation were being subjected to sustained questioning and verification, they added.
Police said the exercise targeted both the supply and demand chains linked to narcotics and was executed in a planned and coordinated manner.
The operation was led by the Jammu Superintendent of Police Joginder Singh, along with officers and personnel from various police units of the South Zone.
Reaffirming its commitment to making society drug-free, Jammu Police appealed to the public to share information related to drug trafficking and other criminal activities to facilitate timely and effective action.
Police said the anti-narcotics campaign would continue across the district to curb the drug menace and maintain law and order.
