Srinagar: Police in Sopore attached an immovable property belonging to a notorious drug peddler under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985, a police spokesman said Wednesday.
The attached property comprises a double-storey residential house valued at approximately ₹30 lakh, located at Dharnambal, Tarzoo, Sopore, and belongs to Mehraj-ud-Din Sheikh son ofGhulam Mohammad Sheikh resident of Dharnambal, Tarzoo, Sopore. The action was taken following a detailed enquiry and financial investigation, which revealed that the property had been acquired from proceeds generated through illicit narcotics trafficking, the spokesman added. The property was accordingly identified as illegally acquired and attached under the relevant sections of law.
He said the attachment forms part of Police’s sustained strategy to target not only drug peddlers but also the financial infrastructure supporting the narcotics trade. By depriving drug traffickers of assets acquired through illegal activities, the objective is to dismantle the economic foundations of the drug network and deter others from indulging in similar crimes.
