Police arrest timber smuggler in Sopore
Srinagar: Police arrested an accused involved in the illegal felling, theft and transportation of forest produce in the Warpora forest area of Sopore. The stolen willow timber along with the horse cart used in the offence was seized, a police spokesman said Monday.
He said that acting on specific information, Police detected a case of forest theft in the Warpora forest area and apprehended one accused involved in the illegal extraction and transportation of forest produce.
A police party rushed to the spot after receiving credible information regarding the illegal felling and theft of willow timber from the forest area. During the operation, one individual was found transporting illegally felled willow logs on a horse cart. The accused has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Ganaie son of Mohammad Shabir Ganaie resident of Jalalabad, Sopore. The stolen willow timber along with the horse cart used for its transportation was seized on the spot, the spokesman added.
In this connection, FIR No. 136/2026 under Section 303(2) BNS and Section 26-F of the Forest Act has been registered at Police Station Sopore and investigation has been taken up, he added.
