Pulwama: Residents and farmers from Padgampora, Dangerpora, Gooripora and several adjoining villages have appealed to the authorities to allow them to continue agricultural activities on state land, stating that farming remains the primary source of income for hundreds of families in the area.
The locals said they have been cultivating these lands for several decades and that a large section of the population depends entirely on agriculture for their livelihood.
They expressed concern over the uncertainty surrounding their farming activities and urged the administration to take a compassionate view of the matter.
“We have been cultivating this land for generations. Our families survive on the income earned from farming, and any restriction on cultivation will directly affect our livelihood,” said a local farmer from Padgampora.
Another resident said that agriculture is the backbone of the local economy and supports hundreds of households. “Most people here have no alternative source of income. The crops grown on these lands help us meet household expenses, educate our children and sustain our families throughout the year,” he said.
The farmers maintained that they have been using the land for agricultural purposes for many years and that their livelihoods are closely linked to it. They urged the authorities to consider the socio-economic impact any restrictions may have on farming communities.
“We are not asking for anything beyond our means of survival. We simply want to continue cultivating the land that has supported our families for decades,” said another farmer from Gooripora.
The residents also appealed to senior government officials and concerned departments to intervene and resolve the issue at the earliest. They stressed that any disruption to agricultural activities would have serious consequences for local farming families.
“We request the higher authorities to look into the matter urgently and provide relief to the farming community. Agriculture is the only occupation for many families here, and their future depends on these fields,” the locals said.
The affected residents have sought immediate attention from the administration and expressed hope that their concerns will be addressed in a timely manner to safeguard the livelihoods of hundreds of farmers in the region.
Pertinently, authorities in the area have not allowed to cultivate crop on the land as they are using it for some other purpose
