Police arrests four drug peddlers in Anantnag

Srinagar: Continuing its sustained campaign against drug trafficking and substance abuse, police in Anantnag achieved another significant success by arresting four drug peddlers in three separate operations and recovering contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Friday.
He said that in the first operation, a police party from Khanabal during routine naka checking at TB Shah–Harnag Crossing apprehended one person identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Bhat, son of Mohammad Iqbal Bhat, resident of Batpora Anantnag. During his search, approximately 580 grams of grinded cannabis was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 169/2026 under Sections 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Anantnag. The recovered contraband was seized and the accused was arrested.
In another operation, a police party at D.K Pora during routine naka checking at Brinty apprehended two persons identified as Yawar Ahmad Itoo, son of Fayaz Ahmad Itoo, resident of Wateigam Wanihama and Abid Hussain Bhat, son of Mohammad Jabar Bhat, resident of Brinty Batpora. During their search, approximately 09 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from their possession. In this regard, FIR No. 50/2026 under Sections 8/21, 29 NDPS Act has been registered and both accused persons have been arrested. Investigation is underway, the spokesman said.
He said that in the third operation, a naka party of Police Post Sangam conducting routine checking at Halmulla apprehended one person identified as Shabbu, son of Abdul Lateef, resident of Khamaria Pandri, P.O. Pauta Kalan, District Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, presently residing at Pujteng, Sangam. During his personal search, 04 charas stick-like substances weighing approximately 70 grams were recovered from his possession. Accordingly, FIR No. 149/2026 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara and investigation has been taken up.
