Winds of Change

Constantly revisiting the past will serve little purpose; the need of the present moment is to concentrate on those measures that can contribute to the progress and betterment of society.
Being a citizen of the world’s largest democracy and an adherent to the cherished ideals of the Constitution of India, I write these lines to acknowledge the efforts of the worthy Manoj Sinha and his team in bringing visible changes to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Though much still remains to be done, a considerable amount of work has already been carried out for the welfare of the common people. Since assuming the office of Lieutenant Governor in 2020, the honourable LG has left no stone unturned in attempting to improve the lives of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Certainly, like every administration, there may be limitations in governance; nevertheless, his work reflects dedication and sincerity in public service.
Since 2020, I have personally observed visible changes on the ground. From economic growth to social development, notable strides have been made in the domains of administrative efficiency and youth empowerment. I myself have witnessed several positive developments under his leadership.
It is also true that the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir passed through painful and disturbing times. The atmosphere of violence took a heavy toll on the lives of the people, and the memories of those difficult years still linger in our hearts.
However, with the arrival of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, to a considerable extent, those wounds have begun to heal. The reduction in violence and the creation of opportunities for the youth have provided relief from the psychological pain that had deeply affected society.
There was a time when violence had become a harsh reality of daily life, depriving people of peace and stability. Today, however, there is a visible improvement in the overall atmosphere. In the political sphere, people feel somewhat closer to the institutions of governance.
The distance that once existed between the administration and the common people appears to have reduced to some extent. In the economic sphere, important developments have taken place, and efforts are being made to lay the foundation for future progress. Resources appear to be utilised more effectively, and there are indeed winds of change blowing in this sector.
With regard to employment opportunities for the youth, much work has also been done. Although I do not possess statistical data, I can speak from personal experience. Being an average student myself, I have become more motivated to work hard due to the assurances and environment created under the present administration. It is undeniable that the process of recruitment and employment generation still takes time in this part of the world. Nevertheless, several milestones have been achieved under the present administration that was desperately missing in earlier times.
In the social sphere as well, people seem to feel more connected with one another. An atmosphere of belongingness is gradually being strengthened, reflecting the spirit of India’s unity in diversity. Some time ago, I spoke to a couple from another part of India while they were visiting Srinagar.
They expressed gratitude towards both the administration and the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their hospitality. During our conversation, they shared their perceptions regarding the Union Territory. I was surprised to learn how differently the peace-loving people of Jammu and Kashmir had often been portrayed outside the region.
Our interaction was meaningful, and it gave me a sense of relief and optimism. As far as I know, such interactions were comparatively limited before 2019 because the atmosphere was deeply affected by unrest and instability.
People longed to connect with fellow Indians from different regions of the country, but opportunities were fewer. It is a fact that disputes are part and parcel of the international arena, and no country is entirely free from challenges. However, in our case, many sane and moderate voices often remained unheard under the shadow of conflict and uncertainty.
We believe in democratic processes and remain hopeful that the Lt Guv lead administration will continue working for the welfare of the people. I understand that many may disagree with my views, and I respect their perspectives as well. I am not an expert in articulating political ideas, but I write these words from my personal observations and experiences.
The people of Jammu and Kashmir have endured years of uncertainty and emotional hardship. The prolonged conflict has left deep scars on society. Yet, despite everything, people continue to hope for peace, development, and stability.
We believe that further progress in education, employment, infrastructure, and social harmony can help transform the Union Territory into a place where future generations may live with dignity and peace.
Though Almighty Allah is the ultimate creator and sustainer of all, the role of an efficient and people-oriented administration in improving society cannot be overlooked. I apologise for any shortcomings in my expression. Let us all work together to make the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir a truly peaceful and prosperous place to live in.
