Dear Sir,
Green Shift In Pharma Mandate
The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission’s mandate to eliminate Class 1 carcinogenic solvents like benzene from our 50 billion dollar pharmaceutical industry is a phenomenal leap toward sustainable healthcare.
Historically drug manufacturing has generated over 100 kg of hazardous waste per kilogram of active ingredient. By replacing lethal chemicals with water or safe Class 3 alternatives India strategically mitigates toxic industrial effluents and long-term public health liabilities.
As the global pharmacy transitioning to energy efficient green chemistry will enhance our regulatory credibility lowering clean up expenditures. To ensure compliance the government must subsidize technology transfers for small scale manufacturers securing global supply chain resilience without compromising medicine affordability.
