SKUAST-K Scientists Inspire Students to Build Careers, Protect Environment at the Edge of Wular Lake
BANDIPORA: In a meaningful blend of career guidance and environmental awareness, PM SHRI Government Secondary School Laharwalpora, Bandipora, Saturday organized a comprehensive career counselling session alongside an innovative plantation drive for its students.
The programme featured distinguished resource persons, Prof. Syed Naseem Geelani, Chief Scientist and Head, Department of Social and Basic Sciences, Faculty of Forestry, SKUAST-K, and Prof. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Chief Scientist, SKUAST-K, who shared valuable insights with students about education, career planning, and personal growth.
The interactive counselling session was attended by students of classes 8th, 9th, and 10th. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Syed Naseem Geelani elaborated on the wide range of career opportunities available in both science and humanities streams after Class 12 and graduation. He encouraged students to choose careers in accordance with their interests, abilities, and passions rather than external pressures.
Girl students largely expressed their aspiration to pursue careers in the medical field.
Boy students showed a strong inclination towards joining the defence services.
Prof. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, while interacting with the students, highlighted the key ingredients of success — consistency, dedication, discipline, and integrity. He motivated the students to remain focused on their goals and reminded them that sustained hard work ultimately leads to achievement.
Earlier, the Head of the Institution, Javaid Jawad, warmly welcomed the distinguished scientists and urged the students to learn from individuals who have reached great heights through commitment, perseverance, and hard work.
Following the counselling session, the school organized a unique plantation drive within the school premises involving 46 students of Class 6th, who collectively planted 46 saplings.
In an inspiring effort to instil responsibility and environmental consciousness among students, each sapling was named after the student who planted it. The students pledged to nurture and protect their respective plants throughout the next five years of their academic journey in the school.
The initiative symbolized not only the growth of trees but also the nurturing of responsible, environmentally conscious citizens committed to building a greener and better future.
