Police arrests three drug peddlers, contraband substances recovered

Srinagar: Police achieved another success by arresting three drug peddlers in Anantnag, Sopore and Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Friday.
He said that a police party while conducting naka checking at Muslim Abad, Anantnag, intercepted a suspicious vehicle (Ritz bearing registration No. JK01P-8668. During preliminary questioning, the driver disclosed his identity as Milad Ayoub son of Mohammad Ayoub Mir resident of Nai Basti, Anantnag. Upon search of the vehicle, a polythene bag concealed beneath the driver’s seat was recovered, containing Charas powder-like substance weighing approximately 95 grams. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
In Sopore, police have apprehended a drug peddler during patrolling in the jurisdiction of Police Post Bus Stand near SDH Sopore. Upon personal search, contraband charas-like substance and Psychotropic substance Codeine Phosphate was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Ashiq Hussain Tranko son of Abdul Ahad Tranko resident of Noorbagh Sopore, the spokesman added.
In Handwara, a police party during naka checking near Govt. Higher Secondary School intercepted a suspicious person. During search, Charas-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Chopan son of Ghulam Mohammad Chopan resident of War Mohalla Haril. Subsequently, he has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, the spokesman added.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated.
