Admin fully geared up to make JK drug-free: LG Sinha
BUDGAM, MAY 5: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday announced a village-level ‘Parents Brigade’ to combat drug abuse, asserting that the entire administration is committed to eradicating the narcotics menace from the region.
Addressing residents after a ‘padyatra’ in central Kashmir’s Budgam district, LG Sinha said he appealed to every family, social organisation, and spiritual and political leaders to intensify the anti-drug campaign.
“Every arm of administration and its full strength is committed to eradicating drugs,” the Lt Governor said.
He also announced the formation of an informal ‘Parents Brigade’ in every village and city ward, wherever possible.
“Our aim is to create a voluntary network of parents who will be trained and empowered to identify early signs of drug use in villages or wards and immediately connect families with resources,” LG Sinha said.
The Lt Governor described the campaign as a “people’s movement” and called for collective efforts to “build a Jammu and Kashmir where no child is lost to drugs and no family is broken by addiction”.
He also called for intensified grassroots-level engagement at Panchayat and ward levels, involving religious leaders, educationists, traders, youth groups and social activists to transform the campaign into a sustained mass movement. (KNS)
