Police arrests several drug peddlers, contraband substances recovered
Srinagar: Continuing its drive against drug menace under Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, police arrested several drug peddlers in Kupwara, Awantipora, Handwara, Shopian and Anantnag and recovered contraband substance from their possession. Besides, eight habitual drug peddlers were detained under preventive laws in Anantnag, a police spokesman said Tuesday.
He said that in Kupwara, during routine patrolling at village Shaloora, a police party at Kralpora intercepted a suspicious individual at Shaloora Crossing. He has been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Bhat resident of Shumnag. During search, a contraband substance suspected to be charas was recovered from his possession.
In Awantipora, a police party apprehended a person identified as Gulzar Ahmad Mir son of Hamza Mir resident of Lariyar Tral. During search, contraband substances including cannabis sticks (30 grams), charas powder (190 grams), and grinded cannabis (1 kg 155 grams) were recovered from his possession.
In Handwara, police apprehend an individual during a routine naka operation in the Langate area. During search, heroin-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Afroz Ahmad Shah son of Bashir Ahmad Shah resident of Check Langate.
In Anantnag, a police party at Mattan, while conducting naka checking on Kehribal Road near Hangul Restaurant, apprehended an individual identified as Mohammad Abass Reshi son-in-law of Ghulam Mohi-u-Din Deen, a resident of Kehribal. During search, approximately 250 grams of charas powder was recovered from his possession.
Police in Shopian arrested a drug peddler and recovered Churshed Cannabis-like substance from his possession.
During routine naka checking at T- Chowk Reshipora, a police party from Police Station Zainapora observed a person moving under suspicious circumstances and tactfully apprehended him.
During search, 2.100 Kgs of Churshed Cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Imran Parray son of Mohammad Ramzan Parray resident of Kashwa Zainapora.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 63/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Zainapora. Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and to dismantle the broader drug network involved, the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, police in Anantnag have taken firm preventive action by detaining eight habitual drug peddlers under relevant provisions of law, following due approval from the Executive Magistrates.
The detained individuals were identified as repeat offenders actively involved in narcotics-related activities. Despite previous legal action, they persisted in the drug trade, posing a significant threat to public health, especially to the youth of the district.
Acting decisively, the police invoked preventive detention laws to curb their activities and prevent further harm. Subsequently, all eight accused have been lodged in Subsidiary Jail Kehribal, Anantnag, the spokesman added.
