Police arrests seven drug peddlers, Contraband substances recovered
Srinagar: In continuation of the ongoing mass anti-drug campaign under the 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Police arrested seven drug peddlers in various parts of valley and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Monday.
He said that in Anantnag, acting on specific inputs and during routine operations, police achieved significant success in its ongoing drive against drug trafficking, recovering large quantities of contraband and arresting multiple accused persons.
A police party at Srigufwara, during patrolling at Shalgam Crossing, intercepted a vehicle Alto (JK01W-7328). Upon search, approximately 110 kgs of Ganja was recovered. One person Nazir Ahmad Khatana son of Faqeer Khatana resident of Gujar Basti Shalgam, was arrested on the spot, the spokesman said.
Meanwhile, a police party at Dialgam, acting on credible information, conducted a search at the residence of Mohammad Rafiq Itoo resident of Watrigam Dialgam after obtaining a search warrant from the competent court. During the search, approximately 51 kgs of charas-like substance was recovered from the said house, the spokesman said.
Further, a police party at Srigufwara during naka checking at Sakhras Crossing apprehended one individual identified as Rayees Ahmad Shah son of Gull Mohammad Shah resident of Wullarhama. During search, about 5 kgs of charas powder was recovered from his possession. In a separate action, a police party at Bijbehara apprehended a drug peddler during naka checking at Doodnad Waghama and recovered 170 grams of charas-like substance along with ₹18,700 cash from his possession, the spokesman added.
In Handwara, a vigilant police team intercepted a suspicious individual who attempted to flee on spotting the police party. But the police team successfully apprehended the accused. Upon personal search, a significant quantity of contraband charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Ghulam Hassan Khan son of Ghulam Nabi Khan resident of Maidan Chogul.
In Baramulla, a police party established a naka at Ghat Palhalan near the Railway underpass. During the operation, one suspicious individual was intercepted and tactfully apprehended. He was later identified as Manzoor Ahmad Lone son of Ghulam Nabi Lone resident of Yedipora. Upon conducting his personal search, approximately 150 grams of charas-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession, the spokesman added.
In Shopian, during routine naka checking at Tul Bagh Haji Check Crossing, a police party from Police Post Keegam observed a person moving under suspicious circumstances and tactfully apprehended him. Upon search, 144 grams of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Jumeer Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Rashid Mir resident of Pirpora Keegam. Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages and to dismantle the broader drug network involved.
All the accused persons were arrested and accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation is underway to ascertain the source and wider linkages involved, the spokesman said.
