Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan: Police arrests 11 drug peddlers, contraband substances recovered

Srinagar: In continuation of the ongoing mass anti-drug campaign under the 100-day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Police have arrested 11 drug peddlers in various parts of valley and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Saturday.
In Anantnag, a police party during naka checking at Tanjmulla Chatergul crossing apprehended Mohammad Yousuf Hajam son of Ghulam Mohammad Hajam resident of Panchalthan Chatergul, a chronic drug peddler, and recovered 1.600 kg of charas powder-like substance from his possession.
Meanwhile, a police party apprehended Akash Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Rashid Dar resident of Bun Mohalla Anchidora. On search, 26 grams of charas-like substance wrapped in cloth was recovered.
Moreover, during routine naka checking at Panzmulla, Police apprehended Shabir Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Yousuf Shah resident of Halwani Ganiegund along with 78 grams of charas powder and 9 grams of charas pieces.
Besides, a police party from Police Post Sangam during naka checking at Halmullah intercepted an auto JK13K-1926 coming from Awantipora. Bashir Ahmad Tramboo son of Ali Mohammad Tramboo resident of Naina Batapora was apprehended with 4.130 kg charas powder-like substance and 04 sticks of charas weighing 56 grams, the spokesman added.
In Sopore, during patrolling near Public Park Chinkipora, Sopore, a suspicious individual was intercepted and apprehended. Upon personal search, psychotropic substance (Spasmoproxyvon capsules) was recovered and seized as per due procedure. The accused has been identified as Zubair Ahmad Malla, son of Ali Mohammad Malla, resident of Maharajpora C Sopore.
Moreover, during naka checking at Shiva Crossing, a naka party of Police Station Bomai intercepted one person identified as Showkat Ahmad Shah, son of Reyaz Ahmad Shah, resident of Dooru Sopore. Upon personal search, contraband charas-like substance was recovered from his possession, the spokesman added.
In Baramulla, police apprehended a drug peddler during naka checking at Nawan Mode Kreeri. The accused has been identified as Faizan Mohiudin Wani son of Ghulam Mohiudin Wani resident of Pethgam Wagoora.
During checking, he was found in possession of psychotropic substances in the form of tablets. The recovered contraband includes: Clonazepam – 02 strips, Zolpidem Tartrate – 01 strip, Amnurite-P – 01 strip, D Veniz 100 – 01 strip, Ventab XL 150 – 01 strip, Tapentadol HCL – 03 strips, a total of 87 tablets. Vehicle (Sierra) bearing registration number JK05Q-1100, used for transportation of the contraband, has also been seized, the spokesman added.
In Awantipora, police during naka checking at Seer Colony Khrew road, apprehended one individual identified as Razi Mushtaq son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat resident of Sharshalli. During search, 1.82 grams of heroin like substance was recovered from his possession.
In Pulwama, during naka checking at Eidgah Crossing on Rajpora Road, Police party intercepted 02 persons, travelling on a motorcycle bearing registration No. JK13A-9406. During search, Charas powder like substance weighing approximately 369.5 grams and Charas weighing 7 grams were recovered from their possession. The accused persons have been identified as Nazir Ahmad Sheikh son of Ghulam Nabi resident of Murran Pulwama and Gulzar Ahmad Darzi son of Mohammad Shaban Darzi resident of Murran Pulwama. Both accused were arrested on the spot. The contraband was seized after completing all legal formalities. The motorcycle used in the commission of offence was also seized.
Meanwhile, police have apprehended a drug peddler in the Beerwah area of the district Budgam and recovered a contraband substance from his possession.
The operation was carried out by a police at Zabgulla Khanshaib. During the action, one individual identified as Ishfaq Ahmed Joo, son of Ab Rashid Joo, resident of Dobipora Khanshaib, was intercepted and subsequently apprehended.
During his personal search, approximately 72 grams of charas-like substance, concealed in corn husks, was recovered from his possession. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 70/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Beerwah, and further investigation has been taken up.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigation is underway to ascertain the source and wider linkages involved, the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, police booked 12 narco kingpins under the NDPS Act in Anantnag district, an official said.
In a sustained crackdown against drug abuse and trafficking, the police detained 12 repeat drug peddlers and subsequently lodged them in Subsidiary Jail Kehribal, Anantnag, a police spokesman said.
He said these individuals, identified as habitual offenders involved in drug peddling and related activities, posed a serious threat to public health and safety.
Despite prior actions, they continued to engage in the illicit narcotics trade, prompting strict preventive measures, the spokesman said.
The crackdown was carried out with due approval from the competent Executive Magistrates, the spokesman added.
