Pulwama: In a major relief to residents of Tral and its adjoining areas, a long-pending demand of over two decades has finally been fulfilled with the completion and opening of a vital link bridge near the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Tral.
The bridge, constructed over the Watal Ara Nallah, is set to transform connectivity and ease access to essential healthcare services for thousands of people.
For nearly 25 years, locals were forced to rely on temporary and unsafe wooden structures, which were frequently damaged or washed away during floods, often leaving entire localities cut off—particularly during emergencies.
The lack of a permanent bridge had been a persistent challenge, especially for patients needing urgent medical attention.
With the new bridge now operational, residents can access SDH Tral through a significantly shorter and safer route, reducing travel time and risk. The development is expected to be particularly beneficial for elderly patients, pregnant women, and those requiring immediate care.
Locals expressed immense relief and termed the bridge a “lifeline” for the area.
“We have struggled for decades due to the absence of this bridge. During floods, we would risk our lives to cross the nallah, especially in medical emergencies. Today, it feels like a huge burden has been lifted,” said Abdul Rashid, a local resident.
Another resident, Shabnam Begum, highlighted the impact on women and children, saying, “Pregnant women and sick patients suffered the most. This bridge will save lives by ensuring timely access to the hospital. It is something we had been demanding for years.”
Residents also appreciated the efforts of the administration and the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department for completing the project, which had remained stalled for a long time.
“This is a welcome step. We hope more such pending projects are taken up and completed without delay,” said Ghulam Mohammad, a shopkeeper in the area.
Apart from improving healthcare access, the bridge is expected to enhance overall mobility, facilitate local trade, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region.
