Bandipora, Apr 22: In a solemn and heartfelt gesture, a group of tourists on Wednesday paid tribute to the victims of last year’s tragic attack in Pahalgam by observing a two-minute silence at Razdan Pass. The tribute marked the first anniversary of the devastating incident that claimed 27 lives, including 26 tourists.

Visitors, accompanied by local tour operators and drivers, gathered at the scenic high-altitude pass in Gurez to offer prayers and remember those who lost their lives in one of the deadliest attacks targeting tourists in recent years. The atmosphere was marked by grief, solidarity, and a shared commitment to peace.

Divya Rathi, a tourist from Mumbai, said the tragedy had left deep and lasting wounds but could not weaken the spirit of unity that defines Kashmir. “No power can divide Kashmir and India. The brotherhood here stands as the strongest example of unity and harmony,” she said.

Another tourist, Naveen, expressed similar sentiments. “We are deeply saddened by what happened last year. Such incidents leave scars on every citizen’s heart, but they cannot break our resolve. We feel safe here, and the warmth and love shown by locals is overwhelming,” he said.

He added that their presence at the site on the anniversary was also a message of resilience. “We want to tell those who try to disturb peace that we stand united. Terror cannot divide us, and this unity will always remain stronger.”

Local tourist guides echoed these views, emphasizing that Kashmir has always welcomed visitors with open arms and will continue to do so despite attempts to disrupt peace. They said the participation of tourists in the remembrance event reflects hope, resilience, and a collective stand against violence.

The tribute concluded with prayers for lasting peace and a pledge to uphold unity, ensuring that the memory of the victims continues to inspire a stronger resolve against terrorism. (KNS)
