CM Omar unveils SCC jersey, reaffirms push for sports and conservation
Jammu: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday unveiled the official jersey of the Sher-i-Kashmir Cricket Club (SCC) and reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting sports and nurturing young talent across the Union Territory.
Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, and members of the club attended the event, the official spokesperson said.
“The government is focused on creating a robust sporting ecosystem and extending all possible support to encourage participation at grassroots and professional levels,” Abdullah said while highlighting the importance of sports in youth development.
He also appreciated the role of sports clubs in channelising the energy of youth in a constructive direction.
SSC president Aman Cheema highlighted the club’s achievements, saying it has participated in and won several tournaments and continues to engage youth through sports.
He added that the club is helping steer young people away from negative influences by promoting a sports culture.
Earlier, the chief minister also released a wildlife publication titled “Checklist of Mammals of Jammu and Kashmir, India,” and underscored the importance of ecological documentation and conservation.
A delegation of wildlife ecologists led by Muzaffar Kichloo briefed him on their ongoing and upcoming research initiatives.
Abdullah commended their work and emphasised the need for sustained scientific research and conservation efforts to preserve the rich biodiversity of Jammu and Kashmir, calling it an integral part of the region’s natural heritage.
