Police says three drug peddlers arrested in Sopore

Srinagar, Apr 9: Police in north Kashmir’s Sopore claimed to have apprehended three persons and recovered contraband substances in two separate operations in this north Kashmir town.

A police officer said that during naka checking at Hadipora in the Rafiabad area, a suspicious individual was intercepted, and upon search, a poppy straw-like substance was recovered from his possession, he said.

The accused has been identified as Qamar Ali, son of Mohammad Ali Bhat, a resident of Chanderkote in the Ramban district, he said.

A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Dangiwacha, the official said.

In another incident, during naka checking on the Tragpora-Rohama Road, two suspicious persons were intercepted, and a charas-like substance was recovered from them, the official said.

The accused have been identified as Mursaleen Shafi, son of Mohammad Shafi Yatoo, and Ali Mohammad Yatoo, son of Ghulam Mohammad Yatoo — both residents of Chijhama, Rafiabad, he added.

A separate case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the same police station, officials said, adding that further investigation is underway to ascertain the source and wider linkages involved.

Police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguard youth and society from the drug menace, the official further added.
