Demand immediate commissioning of filtration Plant

Pulwama: Residents of Achgoza village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have raised serious concerns over the supply of unsafe drinking water, alleging that untreated water from a nearby canal is being directly supplied to households.
The villagers say that despite the existence of a filtration plant in the area, it has not been made operational, leaving them dependent on contaminated sources for their daily needs.
“We are being forced to drink canal water without any filtration. This is not only unsafe but poses a serious risk to our health,” said a local resident, adding that children and elderly people are particularly vulnerable to waterborne diseases.
Another resident expressed frustration over the delay in commissioning the filtration facility.
“The filtration plant has already been constructed, but it has been lying defunct for a long time. We fail to understand what is stopping the authorities from making it functional,” he said.
Locals further stated that they have repeatedly brought the issue to the notice of concerned officials, but no concrete action has been taken so far. “We have approached the authorities multiple times, but our pleas have gone unheard. Clean drinking water is our basic right,” said a group of residents.
The residents have urged higher authorities in the administration to intervene at the earliest and ensure that the filtration plant is made operational without further delay.
They warned that continued neglect could lead to serious public health concerns in the area.
“We appeal to the higher-ups to look into this matter on priority. Access to safe and potable water is essential, and we cannot be left at the mercy of contaminated canal water,” they added.
