CM Omar welcomes PMGSY-I extension, calls it game-changer for remote areas
Srinagar, Apr 2: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday thanked Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan for approving the Union Territory’s proposal to extend the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-I) timeline till March 2027, terming the move a major booster for rural connectivity.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister’s Office said the extension would facilitate the completion of several pending rural road projects across the hilly terrain of J&K.
CM Omar stated that the decision would significantly strengthen connectivity in remote and far-flung areas, ensuring better access to essential services and accelerating overall development in the Union Territory.
The PMGSY-I has been instrumental in providing all-weather road connectivity to unconnected villages across the country. The extension aims to address delays caused by challenging geographical and climatic conditions in the border region.
