Congress hands over boat to locals after bridge damage in Nagrota
Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir unit of Congress on Sunday provided a boat to residents of Katal Batal village in Nagrota tehsil to facilitate movement across a river after a bridge in the area was damaged last year and disrupted connectivity.
Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariq Hameed Karra, Working President Raman Bhalla and former minister Yogesh Sawhney visited the village and handed over the boat, a party spokesperson said.
The boat will prove beneficial for the locals who were facing difficulties in commuting across Katal Batal river following the destruction of the bridge connecting Bhair Devta Shrine and the surrounding villages due to devastating floods in September last year.
Stressing that such initiatives show the party’s commitment to public service, Karra said the devotees of the god and the locals had been facing inconvenience for quite some time, and it was heartening to see that their concerns were addressed through the efforts of Sawhney.
“The public representatives must not only make promises but also ensure that those promises are fulfilled in a timely manner, as trust between the people and their leaders is built through consistent and sincere action,” he said.
Sawhney, who is also District President Jammu (Urban), said he decided to arrange the boat after interacting with residents and devotees.
