J&K Assembly accepts resolution for age relaxation in JKAS, fee waiver for govt jobs
Jammu, Feb 17: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday accepted a private member’s resolution seeking age relaxation for the Jammu and Kashmir Combined Competitive Examination (JKCCE) leading to JKAS and allied services, and a full waiver of application fees for all other government job recruitments.
The resolution was submitted by Advocate Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, MLA from Budgam (Peoples Democratic Party), during the ongoing Budget Session. It proposes a meaningful increase in the upper age limit for JKCCE/JKAS candidates, which currently stands at 32 years for open merit aspirants.
It also calls for waiving application fees for all other government recruitment processes to provide financial relief to unemployed youth.
Addressing the Assembly, Mehdi said the move was aimed at addressing the challenges faced by candidates due to repeated exam delays, abrupt schedule changes, and strict age limits in the JKCCE/JKAS process since 2019.
He added that fee waivers would remove economic barriers for candidates from modest backgrounds, enabling broader participation in public employment.
The resolution, now formally accepted, will be tabled for detailed discussion during the current Budget Session. The step has drawn cross-party attention, highlighting a consensus on supporting youth aspirations and improving access to government jobs in the Union Territory.
Mehdi described the Assembly’s acceptance as a “first victory” for younger aspirants, saying the move could pave the way for more equitable and accessible recruitment policies in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
