Police solves bakery shop theft case in Sopore

Srinagar: Police in Sopore arrested an accused involved in a bakery shop theft case and recovered stolen cash from his possession, a police spokesman said Saturday.
He said that police received a written complaint from the owner of a bakery shop regarding the theft of cash along with bakery items from his shop, “Cake Villa,” located at Shah Faisal Market, Sopore.
The theft had taken place during night hours after the window of the shop was broken. Accordingly, case FIR No. 05/2026 under relevant sections of law was registered and investigation was taken up, he added.
During the course of investigation, Police identified the suspect Shakir Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Sadiq Bhat resident of Sir Syed Colony, Sopore. The accused attempted to evade arrest but was apprehended after sustained efforts. During sustained questioning, he confessed to the theft, leading to the recovery of stolen cash from his possession.
During further questioning, the accused also admitted that he had attempted to break the locks of several shops in the main market Bus Stand Sopore and confessed to having consumed bakery items stolen from Cake Villa. Further investigation in the case is underway, the spokesman added.
