Police arrests drug peddlers in Budgam and Shopian
Srinagar: Police arrested drug peddlers and recovered a significant quantity of contraband substance in Budgam and Shopian, a police spokesman said Saturday.
He said that a police team during routine patrol duty in Ganjibagh village intercepted a suspicious person with a nylon bag. Upon search of the nylon bag, police recovered semi-grinded charas-like substance weighing approximately 7 kilograms and 910 grams.
The accused has been identified as Mehraban Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Qayoom Bhat, resident of Gopalpora. He has been arrested and accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 208/2025 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Chadoora and further investigation has been initiated.
Police arrested a drug peddler in Shopian and recovered contraband substance from his possession, the spokesman added.
He said that police during naka checking at Haji Check crossing intercepted a suspicious person. During search, charas like substance weighing approximately 896 grams were recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Shamim Ahmad Bhat resident of Poterwal Keegam. He has been arrested and accordingly, a case FIR No. 275/2025 under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated, the spokesman said.
