Authorities promise more reliable power supply across dozens of villages

Pulwama: In a major boost to the region’s power infrastructure, authorities have commissioned the new 33KV Lassipora–Pulwama (2nd) line, a move that is expected to significantly improve electricity supply to Pulwama town and several adjoining areas.
Officials said the long-awaited project will ease the heavy load previously carried by the existing line, ensuring more stable and uninterrupted power for thousands of households.
The newly commissioned line will benefit localities including Tahab, Chandgam, Naira, Tenghar, Payar, Koil, Pinglena, Gundipora and many other neighbouring villages.
Two critical receiving stations — Tenghar and Pinglena — have already been shifted to the new circuit. Officials say this will substantially reduce the pressure on the old Pulwama line, resulting in fewer fluctuations and outages. The Tenghar receiving station is also undergoing a capacity upgrade to 2×6.3 MVA, which will further enhance power availability during peak hours.
A senior official from the Power Development Department (PDD) said the project was long overdue.
“The old line was carrying more load than it was designed for. With the second line now functional, we expect a remarkable improvement in voltage, stability, and overall supply,” he said.
Local residents have also welcomed the development, expressing relief after years of erratic power.
“We used to face frequent low voltage and unannounced cuts, especially in the evenings,” said Abdul Majeed, a resident of Tahab. “If this new line brings the improvement the officials promise, it will be a huge relief for the entire area.”
Another resident from Pinglena, Shabnum Jan, said the upgraded infrastructure will help students and small businesses alike.
“Children suffered a lot during exam season due to poor power supply. Shopkeepers also struggled. We hope this step finally brings consistent electricity.”
Officials involved in the project expressed gratitude to the teams on the ground for completing the task despite logistical challenges.
“Commissioning this line required coordinated efforts across multiple departments. We appreciate the dedication of every team member who made this possible,” an engineer associated with the project said.
With the commissioning of the new 33kV line and upgrading of receiving stations, Pulwama is set to experience fewer disruptions and a stronger, more dependable power supply — a long-awaited improvement welcomed by both residents and officials.
