Police intensifies crackdown on illegal mining
Six FIRs registered, 12 arrested and 39 vehicles seized in past month
Srinagar: Police in Budgam, in coordination with the Mining Department, intensified its action against illegal mining and unauthorized transportation of minerals across the district during the month of November 2025, a police spokesman said Wednesday.
He said that police teams under the supervision of senior officers, carried out sustained operations in areas including Khansahib, Suranhall Batpora, Beerwah, Narbal, Magam, Hardupanzo, Budgam, Charar-i-Shareif, Waterhail, and Chadoora.
During these operations, 12 individuals involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals were arrested on the spot, and 06 FIRs were registered. A total of 39 vehicles used in illegal activities—comprising 11 tippers/dumpers, 21 tractors, 6 JCBs, and 1 L&T machine—were seized. Authorities also imposed heavy fines on violators, the spokesman said.
