Shopian police hosts cricket tournaments for visually impaired players
Promotes inclusiveness through sports
Shopian: In a heartwarming move aimed at promoting inclusiveness and supporting persons with disabilities, Shopian Police on Monday organized a special cricket tournament exclusively for visually impaired players in the district.
The unique event not only gave these individuals a platform to showcase their sporting abilities, but also helped in building their confidence, connecting them socially and encouraging them to participate in outdoor recreational activities.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Chowdhary, formally inaugurated the tournament. While interacting with the participants, he expressed deep appreciation for their extraordinary zeal, willpower, and enthusiasm to take part in sports despite physical challenges.
“These players are a true inspiration. Their energy and dedication towards the game is unmatched. We are proud to see them participating with such passion,” SSP Chowdhary said.
Police officials said that the motive behind holding such events is to send out a message that sports are not confined to any physical ability, and every individual, irrespective of disabilities, should be encouraged and provide space to display their talent.
The SSP further added that Shopian Police will continue organizing similar programmes and engagement activities to ensure specially-abled persons remain connected, motivated and socially empowered.
Participants also expressed gratitude for providing them with such a platform, stating that opportunities like this help them feel recognized and included within mainstream society.
The initiative has been widely appreciated by locals, saying that such efforts not only uplift the morale of artists, sportspersons and talented youth with disabilities but also exhibit the human-friendly approach of the police force in the district.
The event concluded with the assurance that more such sports-related activities will be held in the future to promote equality, inclusiveness and positive community-police relations.
