Pulwama: Residents of several Pulwama villages have expressed strong resentment over the dilapidated condition of the road stretch connecting Lassipora with Bandzoo via Arihal, saying the vital road has not been macadamised for a long time and is causing daily inconvenience to commuters.
Locals said that the road is full of potholes, uneven patches and muddy portions which makes movement difficult, especially during rains.
“This is a main link road used by hundreds of vehicles every day including students, employees, patients and orchardists but unfortunately it has been left unattended for years now,” said a local resident from Arihal.
Locals said despite repeated requests and representations to the concerned authorities, the issue continues to remain unattended.
“We have raised this issue many times. The condition is getting worse with each passing month. Our vehicles get damaged and patients face problems while shifting to hospitals,” another resident said.
Locals said that the Lassipora–Arihal–Bandzoo road connects several habitations and also leads to industrial area and orchards, therefore its proper upkeep is important not only for local transport but also for the movement of goods and horticulture produce.
They appealed to the district administration and the R&B department to take immediate cognizance of the matter and start macadamisation work before winter sets in.
“The work must be taken up at the earliest. Leaving it unattended for yet another season will only add to the suffering of the public,” residents said.
Meanwhile, locals have urged higher authorities to personally monitor the status so that the project does not face further delays.
