Srinagar Open Tennis Championship reaches semi-final stage
Srinagar: The Srinagar Open Tennis Championship on Saturday reached the semi-final stage as Mir Jameel, Dilbagh Singh, Gurmit Singh and Inayat Jehangir made the last four of the singles event.
While last year’s runner up Dilbagh Singh will take on Mir Jameel in the first semifinal, defending champion Inayat Jehangir will face his sparring partner Gurmit Singh for a place in the final tomorrow.
Jameel, Dilbagh and Inayat have reached the semifinal without dropping a set while Gurmit made the cut by virtue of having better game difference as he was locked on same number of point with Mohammad Qais and Irfan Bhat in the group stages.
In the double’s event, Mir Jameel and Danish Ahmad will take on Sajad Bhat and Rouf Ahmad while Dilbagh and Inayat will face Asif Nowsheri and Tahafuz Ilahi.
A total of 40 matches — 24 singles and 16 doubles — have been played so far.
A special competition has been organised for children under the age of 10 years on Sunday as part of efforts to attract more youngsters to the sport.
The championship, organised by the District Lawn Tennis Association in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Lawn Tennis Association, has established itself as a significant event in Kashmir’s tennis calendar.
