Police arrests four drug peddlers

Srinagar: Police on Monday arrested four drug peddlers in Ganderbal, Budgam, Pulwama and Shopian besides recovering contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said.

In Budgam, a police party during patrolling near Goripora, arrested a drug peddler identified as Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Rehman Sheikh resident of Bandgam A/P Draigam Khansahib. During search, 05 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Similarly in Pulwama, during a naka checking at Circular Road near Payer Crossing, a police team arrested a drug peddler identified as Nisar Ahmad Ganaie son of Abdul Ahad Ganaie resident of Tahab, Pulwama. During search, officers recovered around 6 kilograms of a charas-like substance concealed in a nylon bag from his possession.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
Meanwhile in Handwara, police carried out special raids at various identified drug hotspot locations across Police District Handwara. These raids were conducted by different police parties under the supervision of senior officers. During the operation, multiple areas suspected of being used for drug-related activities were searched thoroughly.
Later, police in Shopian recovered contraband substances from the residential house of Abdul Rasheed Koka son of Abdul Gani Koka resident of Melhura Zainapora, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Zainapora.
Acting on specific information, Police registered a case under FIR No. 80/2025 of NDPS Act and obtained a search warrant from the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Shopian. A team from Police accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, raided the house of Abdul Rasheed Koka. During search, 20.890 Kgs of charas powder like substance was recovered. The accused was arrested and investigation is going on.
