Police arrests drug peddler in Anantnag
Srinagar: Police in Anantnag achieved a major success by arresting a drug peddler and recovered a huge consignment of narcotic substance from his possession, a police spokesman said Monday.
He said that police received credible information from reliable sources regarding the illegal possession of narcotic substances by an individual identified as Riyaz Ahmad Mir, son of Abdul Khaliq Mir, resident of Katriteng, Bijbehara.
Acting swiftly on this information, a case FIR No. 182/2025 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Bijbehara, and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation, a police alongwith concerned Magistrate conducted a raid at the residence of the accused. During the search operation, a huge quantity of cannabis leaves mixed with seeds and covers, weighing approximately 25.200 kilograms, was recovered and seized from the house. The accused Riyaz Ahmad Mir has been arrested and taken into custody, the spokesman added.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and to identify other individuals involved in the drug trade, he said.
