Seek immediate action, appeal Lt Guv to issue directions to officials

Pulwama: The residents of Barsoo Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against the faulty drainage system in their area which has led to repeated waterlogging during rains, making daily life miserable.
Locals say the issue has persisted for years, yet the authorities have failed to provide a permanent solution.
People living in the locality said that during every spell of rainfall, streets turn into pools of stagnant water, affecting mobility and damaging household structures.
“Every time it rains, our lanes get submerged. Children find it difficult to go to school, and patients face huge trouble in reaching hospitals,” said Abdul Rashid, a local shopkeeper. “We have been highlighting this issue for long, but the authorities only make hollow promises.”
Another resident, Rukhsana Jan, expressed her frustration over the neglect. “Water often enters our homes due to the faulty drainage. We spend hours cleaning, yet the problem repeats itself with every rainfall. This is not just an inconvenience—it has become a health hazard as well.”
The locals said that the poor drainage is also damaging road infrastructure and creating unhygienic conditions.
“The stagnant water becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes, putting us at risk of diseases,” said Fayaz Ahmad, a resident.
They appealed to the administration to take immediate and concrete steps. “We don’t want temporary patchwork. The government must come up with a proper drainage plan for Barsoo so that this suffering ends once and for all,” the residents said in unison.
They have sought the immediate intervention of LG Manoj Sinha, concerned MLA and Deputy Commissioner Pulwama in this regard.
