Srinagar, Aug 29: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, who is also chairman of Shri Mata Devi Shrine Board, on Friday ordered constitution of a three- member committee to enquire into the reasons behind recent “tragic” landslide incident enroute to the shrine in which around three dozen people died while several others were injured.

According to an order, the high level Committee shall be headed by Additional Chief Secretary to the Government, Department of Jal Shakti, and its other members include Divisional Commissioner Jammu and IGP Jammu.

The committee has been tasked to examine in detail the causes and reasons behind the incident which occurred enroute to the shrine near Adhkwari on August 26.

Besides, the committee has been tasked with to assess responses in the form of rescue and relief measures undertaken as well as suggest appropriate SOPs and measures for preventing recurrence of such incidents in future.

The Committee has been asked to submit its report within two weeks to the Chairman, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, the order added.
