Labour Commissioner engages with workers, employers at Khanmoh
KHANMOH: Reaffirming the Labour Department’s commitment towards protecting the workers’ rights and ensuring prompt grievance redressal, Labour Commissioner, S. Charandeep Singh and Director, Jammu and Kashmir Employees State Insurance (JKESI) Scheme, Wednesday visited the Khyber Industries Private Limited at Khanmoh.
During his visit, the Commissioner held an open interaction with both the employers and the employees, reviewing implementation of the ESI Scheme at the establishment. He instructed the Insurance Medical Officers to clear all referral cases within fixed timelines to avoid unnecessary delays.
A number of workers brought up their issues during the meeting, which were heard with patience and seriousness.
Acting immediately, the Commissioner directed the management of the empanelled hospital Ujala Cygnus Hospital, Nowgam to resolve the workers’ concerns and asked that the matter be taken up with the ESI Corporation, Jammu for swift resolution.
The programme began with an overview of the ESI Scheme. Representatives from Khyber Industries Private Limited and Ujala Cygnus Hospital shared their perspectives, followed by a detailed presentation on the achievements and role of the Jammu and Kashmir Employees State Insurance Society. Inspiring success stories of insured workers were also presented, demonstrating the tangible benefits of the scheme.
Some of the Insured Persons shared their experiences. Murifiat Mohiuddin Shah expressed sincere gratitude to the department for timely disbursement of ₹ 15,000 which enabled him afford necessary medical treatment. Safeer Ahmad conveyed heartfelt thanks to the department for extending financial assistance of ₹ 2.5 lakh at a crucial time for treatment. Nisar Ahmad appreciated the department’s support in providing ₹ 2 lakh promptly, which greatly helped in meeting treatment expenses.
The event was attended by senior officers of the JKESI Society, including the Chief Accounts Officer, Insurance Medical Officers from the Kashmir Division and representatives of the participating organizations.
Pertinently, the Jammu and Kashmir Employees State Insurance Society is responsible for implementing the Employees State Insurance Scheme across the Union Territory. Its mission is to extend comprehensive social security and quality healthcare to insured workers and their families. Through medical care, sickness and maternity benefits, disability compensation and dependents’ pensions, the Society aims to enhance the workers’ welfare, strengthen workplace well-being and provide a reliable safety net for the organized workforce of J&K.
