Allege discrepancies in execution of DPR, seek DC Pulwama’s intervention

Pulwama: The residents of Midoora village in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have expressed serious concerns over the widening work on the Check-Batgund road, alleging that the project hasn’t been executed as per the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
According to locals, the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) department undertook the upgradation of the road last year which was intended to be widened to 30 feet and fully macadamized.
However, they claim that the work was carried out unevenly, with proper widening done in some stretches while other portions, particularly in Midoora, have been left untouched without any clear reason.
They said that last year this issue was brought in notice of authorities who assured that it will be looked into coming year but nothing has been done as of now.
Basharat Ahmad, a resident of Midoora, said that several structures falling in the alignment of the road have not been dismantled, resulting in an inconsistent road width.
“This road connects multiple villages with Tral and Awantipora, and after a long wait, the upgradation work was taken up. But it wasn’t executed properly and uniformly,” he said.
Echoing similar concerns, Shabir Ahmad, another local, stressed that all encroachments—whether from the rich or the poor—should be dealt with equally. “The PMGSY must follow the original DPR and not deviate from the standard protocols. Uneven widening defeats the entire purpose of the project,” he added.
Residents said they have brought the matter to the attention of concerned officials and remain hopeful that the work will now proceed as per the approved plan.
They urged the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and Chief Engineer PMGSY to personally look into the issue and ensure the road is widened and macadamized in a uniform and professional manner.
