Heat wave: Sgr sizzles at 33.5°C, Jmu records season’s hottest day at 44.4°C

Jammu/New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir is reeling under an intense heatwave, with temperatures soaring significantly above normal, the Meteorological data revealed on Tuesday.
The blistering conditions have disrupted daily life, prompting authorities to issue advisories for residents to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure.
As per officials, the record-breaking temperatures were recorded across Jammu region, with maximum temperatures in key areas of the region highlighting the severity of the heat wave.
Jammu recorded the hottest day of the season 44.4°C, which is 5.6°C above normal, while Banihal recorded 33.6°C, which is 5.2°C above normal.
Similarly, Batote recorded 33.3°C, which is 5.5°C above normal. Bhaderwah’s maximum temperature settled at 33.4°C, which was 3.6°C above normal, and Katra recorded at 40.6°C, which was 4.9°C above normal.
Moreover, Kashmir division also witnessed the above normal temperature on Tuesday with Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recording 33.5°C, which was 535°C above normal.
Qazigund, a gateway of Kashmir, recorded 7.3°C above normal temperatures, while Pahalgam’s maximum temperature settled at 29.2°C.
In Kokernag, the mercury settled at 32.2°C, while in Kupwara and Gulmarg, a maximum temperature of 31.6°C and 23.0°C was recorded, respectively, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the heat wave is expected to continue for the next four days.
Local authorities urged residents to take precautions, including staying indoors during peak heat hours in the afternoon, drinking plenty of water and avoiding strenuous outdoor activities.
Meanwhile, Haryana and Punjab continued to reel under intense heatwave on Tuesday with Bathinda recording the highest maximum temperature in the two states at 47.6 degrees Celsius, according to the weather department.
Blistering heat also swept Haryana’s Sirsa as it recorded a high of 46.2 degrees Celsius.
The mercury also continued to soar in Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, which recorded the season’s highest maximum so far at 43.9 degrees Celsius, against Monday’s 43.8 degrees Celsius.
Above normal maximum temperatures were recorded at other places in the two states as sizzling heat continued unabated.
After Sirsa in Haryana, Rohtak also experienced equally hot weather with maximum temperature of 46.1 degrees Celsius.
Severe heat swept Narnaul, Hisar, Ambala, Karnal and Bhiwani too with maximum temperatures settling at 45.2, 44.5, 44.3, 44.5 and 44.3 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Gurugram registered a high of 42.6 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, in Punjab, blistering heat also swept Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala which recorded respective highs of 44.8, 44 and 44.5 degrees Celsius.
Ferozepur registered a high of 43.5 degrees, Pathankot 43.2 degrees while Faridkot and Gurdaspur recorded respective maximums of 44.4 and 44 degrees Celsius. (ewith inputs from PTI/KNO)
