Landslides threaten Rajpora sports stadium as Sasa Ara nallah overflows in Pulwama
Pulwama: In the aftermath of relentless rainfall, the Sasa Ara Nallah in Pulwama has swelled beyond its usual bounds, triggering landslides that now threaten the Rajpora Sports Stadium.
The gushing waters have begun eating away at the embankments surrounding the stadium, raising alarm among residents and local sports enthusiasts.
The Rajpora Sports Stadium, a vital recreational hub for youth in the area, now lies precariously close to significant erosion.
“We have been watching the land slip inch by inch every day,” said Ghulam Hassan, a local resident who lives near the stadium. “If nothing is done soon, we might lose this entire facility to the river.”
Locals say this isn’t the first time the Sasa Ara Nallah has overflowed, but the intensity this time is unusually severe.
In the coming days and months there may be more rains and they fear the worst is yet to come.
“We appeal to the district administration to reinforce the embankments immediately,” urged Tanveer Ahmad, a youth coach who trains aspiring cricketers at the stadium. “This ground is not just a field — it’s our community’s pride and future.”
Officials confirmed that they are aware of the situation and assessing the damage. However, locals say mere assessments are no longer enough.
“The water is not waiting — it’s moving fast, and so is the land,” said Aabid Hussian, a college student who regularly visits the stadium. “Action must match the urgency.”
Locals said that without proper drainage and embankment repair, such events could recur with more devastating impact.
