Police arrests four drug peddlers in Sopore

Srinagar: Police arrested four drug peddlers in Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Wednesday.
Based on specific inputs received from the public, Police launched a series of well-coordinated operations leading to the arrest of four drug peddlers and seizure of narcotic substances, including codeine-based syrup and brown sugar-like substances.
In the first operation, Sopore police arrested a drug peddler identified as Rameez Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir, resident of Adipora Sopore alongwith 13 bottles of codeine-like substance with tampered labels at Adipora Crossing. In another operation, drug peddler namely Waseem Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir, resident of Adipora Sopore was arrested at Malpora-Warpora Crossing and brown sugar-like substance was recovered from his possession.
Moreover, at Chijhama Crossing, two persons identified as Javid Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Subhan Bhat, and Rayees Ahmad Baba, son of Bashir Ahmad Baba, both residents of Marzipora were arrested while transporting codeine-based substances in a truck bearing registration number (JK05E-4845). Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations are underway, the spokesman said.
